sometimes it becomes your duty to say you find mary katherine blackwood "deeply resonant" even if you dont relate to her to the furthest extent just in the mad hopes that people will think twice about how theyre discussing very common traits of mental illness. when someone describes murdering people as "acting on intrusive thoughts" i must throw myself under this bus to defend a fictional teenager
i will always Always enjoy a oooooohhhh scary horror story where child-as-devil kills their family. because parents deserve to die <3
#posts#there was also a lot of use of ''feminine/female energy'' and similar phrases while we were talking abotu the gender themes. hate that#i was intereted in talking abt the gender themes because i hadnt thought of that angle when i was reading#i was focused on the ''deeply fucked up people'' parts and interpersonal issue stuff#and i had to try incredibly hard to pick out parts of the gender discussion that i liked. the version of the book we read had an afterword#that was cool to read for the gender part#and i wish the students leading the discussion just. spoke about it differently. one million red flags#overall everything was fine tbh it was just little things that stood out and made me feel uncomfortable to speak#important to also say that it didnt affect my experience with the book the book rules. 4.5/5 absolutely great#< 5 stars is reserved for things that literally redefine my existence. genloss is the bar to meet for five stars#wait one mroe complaint i felt just short of distraught hearing people talk positively about mary's compulsions as a fun witchy thing#those moments Hurt to read i kept going ''ohh no. oh honey :(''
